Samarcande est l'une des plus anciennes villes habitées en continu d'Asie centrale. Sa situation en a fait une étape importante sur la route de la soie entre la Chine et la Méditerranée ce qui a fait de Samarcande l'une des plus grandes villes d'Asie centrale.

Khiva est une autre ville intéressante à l'ouest de l'Ouzbékistan. Itchan Kala à Khiva a été le premier site d'Ouzbékistan à être inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO (1991).

Tachkent est la capitale de l'Ouzbékistan. Il est connu pour ses nombreux musées et son mélange d'architecture moderne et de l'ère soviétique. N'oubliez pas la station de métro avec un art différent dans chaque station (similaire à Moscou).

Boukhara, également sur l'ancienne route de la soie, est une ville désertique avec de nombreux grands bâtiments dans son centre historique comme des mosquées et des madrasas.
