My preferences
Africa may be best known for wild animals, rainforest, deserts and waterfalls, but there are also some really interesting old cities with history, architecture, palaces and spice markets.

Cairo
Cairo is the capital of Egypt and one of the largest city in Africa. It is close to the Great Pyramids and hosts the world-famous Egyptian Museum and Citadel. The old city is super, the traffic is horrible.
Cape Town (Kaapstad)
Capetown ("Kaapstad" in Afrikaans) is one of the most beautiful major cities in the world. It is the meeting point for two oceans with mountains and a natural harbor. Thanks to its nature many migrants moved there and movies were recorded there. Activities may include surfing, fishing, shark watching (!) or just walking and enjoying. Note that the area also produces good wines...
Luxor
Luxor is the city where the former kings and pharaohs of Egypt have been buried. Even though he wasn´t an important ruler, Tutankhamen´s beautiful grave was discovered here. Luxor is also the location of the Karnak temple with tall pillars.
Marrakesh
Marrakech is the most important of the four former imperial cities of Morocco. The markets, the food (more than couscous!), the colors and the sand buildings makes this place well-worth the visit.
Swakopmund
Swakopmund (and Walvis Bay) is Namibia´s playground, a holiday destination for tourists and locals alike looking to escape the heat of the interior and to have a little adventure. Swakopmund is particulary known for the dunes, where you can slide or ski down from.
Timbuktu (Tombouctou)
Timbuktu (aka Tombouctou) is an ancient city in Mali's desert with many cultural and world heritage sites, surrounded by tales and fairy tales. It flourished as an important Islamic city on the Sahara Trade route around the 15th century.
Zanzibar City (Stone Town)
Zanzibar is known for beaches, spice markets and tradition. Once you have done your climbing of Kilimanjaro, joined your safaris and seen the Big Five a few times, it is great to relax here.
