The South Shetland Islands are a group of islands in the Southern Ocean between the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia Island, without much flora or fauna, because of the harsh, cold and windy climate.

The Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Orkney Islands and South Shetland Islands are all claimed by (far-away) Great Britain and (nearby) Argentina.
